Sunrise on the Trenches

from Dead Heroes Club Debut Album by Dead Heroes Club

/

lyrics

It's almost sunrise soon the shelling will stop
And we're to say our last prayers with the breaking light.
Today the push is on - we go over the top
The lieutenant speaks of glory on the other side.

Here where humanity was lost in the night,
With only gunfire to light up the sky,
Haig and his counsel say that duty must be done
But tonight they all sleep in a feather bed.

The Gallic sunrise is a beauty to behold,
How it sparkles on this first day of July.
I grip my bayonet as the lieutenant's whistle blows
Though I confess I hold no hatred for the other side.

Here where humanity was lost in the night,
With only gunfire to light up the sky,
King George and his counsel say that duty must be done
But tonight they all sleep in a feather bed.

And Mary said "look how the sunrise shines on our wedding bed."
I swear I hear her voice as I'm taken by the noise
Of the dying and the dead...
