There's terror on the TV screen
It's nothing like you've ever seen:
There's death and hate in every story,
Happy ever afters - they're dead and gone
The henchman and the hooded fiend are waking
In your house of dreams.
We've got gunmen wearing suits at last,
hear them passing judgement on the working class.
We've drained the Earth of all it's worth
Destroyed the children, saved the church
And as the last of our innocence slips away
I hear the sound of marching feet
Across the borders on the streets.
They say that war is on its way here.
It's just another day in the life of the world
Wilfred Owen spread the word but still the angry flags unfurl
Now the glimmer of those sad goodbyes
Is hanging in the air of a September sky
The henchman and the hooded fiend are burning down
Your house of dreams.
Horror hides in commonplace
The tell-tale eyes of a stranger's face.
Naked feet on desert lands
Don't fit with legislative plans
Look out when the tanks roll in,
It's more dangerous now than it's ever been.
If you're passing to the other side,
Look back upon the world tonight,
A veil of tears that spins in space
Crying out for the human race.
We've drained the Earth of all it's worth
Destroyed the children, saved the church
And as the last of our innocence slips away
I hear the sound of marching feet
Across the borders on the streets.
They say that war is on its way here.
It's just a day in the life of the world
We are lost in our own time.
And I saw the Earth crumble into dirt,
Reflected by the distance in your eyes.

Feel the Dark
06:21
|
|||
In the city, there is a man
whose world is crumbling down
You know money buys freedom here.
and so he builds a house of straw
with the pennies that he makes.
Will he ever regain control?
Once there was a time
when words flowed from his heart
Now here in decline
He can almost feel the dark:
closing in, his defences paper thin
closing in, from the world at night
under this fading light.
Feel the dark close in,
feel the dark close in,
In a doorway lies a girl,
with a needle to her vein.
Her childhood so far away...
So she becomes what they say she is:
she's taking money for her trade
There are habits she just can’t break.
Once there was a time
When words flowed from her heart
Now here in decline
She can almost feel the dark
closing in, her defences paper thin
closing in, from the world at night
under this failing light.
Love rescue me,
there's no way out that I can see
from this corner of the night...
And there's a stranger at my door
what has he come here for?
Has he come to steal the light?
A lightning flash, a thunder roll,
I count the seconds in between -
It seems the storm is drawing close
to me.
Feel the dark close in,
feel the dark close in.
In the city, there is a man
whose world is crumbling down
You know money buys freedom here.
And so I build a house of straw
with the money that I make.
Will I ever regain control?.
Once there was a time
when words flowed from this heart
Now here in decline
I can almost feel the dark
closing in, my defences paper thin
closing in, from the world at night
under this fading light
And once there was a time
when words flowed from our hearts
Now here in decline
We can almost feel the dark
closing in, our defences paper thin
closing in, from the world at night
under this fading light
Feel the Dark...

Sunrise on the Trenches
04:34
|
|||
It's almost sunrise soon the shelling will stop
And we're to say our last prayers with the breaking light.
Today the push is on - we go over the top
The lieutenant speaks of glory on the other side.
Here where humanity was lost in the night,
With only gunfire to light up the sky,
Haig and his counsel say that duty must be done
But tonight they all sleep in a feather bed.
The Gallic sunrise is a beauty to behold,
How it sparkles on this first day of July.
I grip my bayonet as the lieutenant's whistle blows
Though I confess I hold no hatred for the other side.
Here where humanity was lost in the night,
With only gunfire to light up the sky,
King George and his counsel say that duty must be done
But tonight they all sleep in a feather bed.
And Mary said "look how the sunrise shines on our wedding bed."
I swear I hear her voice as I'm taken by the noise
Of the dying and the dead...

Falling From Grace
08:03
|
|||
Here we go again, here comes the pain again,
I don't know if I can take the strain any more -
I'm shipwrecked and miles from the shore.
I know the chance I take: these days are drawing late,
I'm holding on - but I know this war, I may never win.
This is the doubt setting in.
Here comes the rain from the dark of the sky
I've been hiding in corners living a lie
Get me out of this place -
This is the falling from grace.
The world is changing, I don't understand.
Why are they talking in the shadows,
All about the fool that I am?
I'm drowning in the shifting of the sands.
Here we go again, on my own again,
But I can't stand, against insurmountable odds,
I put my faith in the hands of the Gods...
And as midnight souls read from ancient scrolls
I lie awake waiting for a voice in the night,
Or a pathway leading to the light.
Here comes the rain from the dark of the sky
I've been hiding in corners living a lie
Get me out of this place -
This is the falling from grace.
The world is changing, I don't understand.
Why are they talking in the shadows,
laughing at the fool that I am?
I'm drowning in the shifting of the sands.
Sir Sydney Smythe-Blake for his family's name's sake
Hung himself by the neck
Before the paper could say,
What it was he'd been hiding away.
And as the funeral made it's way along Ealing-Broadway
The mourners in the line
All marching in time said:
"What a disgrace, this was to be the falling from grace."
The lady of the house (dancing to the music of Strauss) declared:
"There will be no tears, this marriage has been loveless
for fucking years"...and she said:
"Here comes the rain from the dark of the sky
I've been hiding in corners living a lie
But now I'm out of that place -
There will be no falling from grace.
The world is changing, I don't understand.
Why are they talking in the shadows,
laughing at the fool that I am?
I feel lifeblood gather in these hands."

The Road to Jerusalem
04:23
|
|||
The stars were in alignment
The holy man took time out for a miracle every day.
The voice of the deceiver sent word to his receivers,
That the bird of peace had flown away.
And I'm just waiting for the news to break,
I'm just waiting for the news...
But you're twisting everything I say.
Another morning breaks on a night of your mistakes,
And all your silver turns to clay.
And I'm just waiting for the storm to break,
I'm just waiting for the storm...
Follow me tonight
Where the darkness is out of sight,
I know you've been sinking like a setting sun.
Well I have fallen and I'll fall again
On the road to my Jerusalem
I won't let them tell me
My time has come and gone.
Just like dimmest dim
The shades have stolen in,
They're stealing everything I say
(head sunk on crippled hands)
And as the morning breaks on a night of new mistakes
All my silver turns to clay...
(hold and be held)
Follow me tonight
Where the darkness is cut by light,
I know you've been sinking like a setting sun.
Well I have fallen and I'll fall again
On the road to my Jerusalem
I won't let them tell me
My time has come and gone.
It's us or them to Jerusalem...

One Day Too Soon
05:57
|
|
||
Memories, see how they fade away
From what we are and what once we were yesterday.
Our history spins all around the choices that we made,
Like the facts we ignore or the questions we still evade.
I'm waking up to the falling down
My hands are shaking I'm lost and found again.
You're leaving me one day too soon...
I'm waking up now I understand,
I'm down and out in no man's land again.
Insincerity, hides in the words that we say
When honesty's gone
Sold like the truths we betrayed.
Our reality spins all around the glory and the game
Until we are lost and alone
With the fears we dare not name.
I'm waking up to the falling down
My hands are shaking I'm lost and found again.
You're leaving me one day too soon...
I'm waking up now I understand,
I'm down and out in no man's land again.
Memories, see how they fade away
Like the days of our lives,
Broken down and stripped away.
Our future depends upon the changes we make,
Upon the courage we find,
And the feeble hearts we never will forsake.
I'm waking up to the falling down
My hands are shaking I'm lost and found again.
You're leaving me one day too soon...

Press Any Key

If you're looking for a way to make sense of this life,
If the puzzles in your brain keep you up through the night,
When everyone is rushing by,
You're standing still, you don't know why.
When the colours on your canvas all melt into one.
When you tire of all the pretty things that used to be fun.
Yesterday's realities are spinning into fantasy again.

Press any key - for a reason to be.
Press any key - make contact with me.
The glowing screen projects the affection you need,
Always understanding the emotions you bleed,
The information whizzing by, a micro-rush, a semi-high.
No-one ever heard your cry of help from inside,
One little click's all it takes to sweep them aside.
I can't disconnect the living line
I've wired it into my mind.
Talk to me, talk to me child,
Hey you in the past - you with the brightest eyes.
Let's walk through the days of our lives,
I've got to think a while.
Give me, oh give me your heart,
It was all that I needed right from the very start.
Look how the shadows have grown all around me now...
If you lose yourself in data you can shut out mankind,
The hours turn to minutes as your life clock unwinds,
No-one calls you anymore - no-one knocks upon your door.
No more talk about the weather, it bores you anyway.
You're happy in this strange world - it'ss where you want to stay.
No time to breathe no time to feel.
Press any key - the answers are free
Press any key - for a reason to be.
Press any key - make contact with me.

Third Light

|

Instrumental.

9. |

You wake with sorrow and pray for joy
You kiss the girl to destroy the boy.
You'd kill for silver and die for gold,
And you hide the secret that's never to be told.
The fool believed the the poet's words
Now he's waiting in the hall,
With hopes and dreams and far-fetched schemes
All wrapped in a christening shawl
But I could see right through the lies,
I knew there was no compromise at all.
The politician moves with ease,
And he waves one blood-stained hand,
To the gangland sons of smoking guns
As they issue their demands.
And I pour myself another drink,
Try not to look try not to think at all.
You know I tried to forget myself,
I even tried to lose control.
And although these eyes are more or less open wide
I sleep on...
The ruthless man with a business plan
Invites corruption round for tea.
But his handshake with the Mason King
Betrays him for his greed.
When I looked through his disguise,
I knew there was no compromise at all.
Today I gazed upon the truth I found,
It made my head spin round and round
And although my feet are more or less on solid ground,
I dream on...
Murder is what murder does and murder's what you've got,
If you've the will to make the kill
The give me your best shot.
Fire not blood run through these veins.
Why don't you walk with me?
Now every waking hour brings a ghost up from the deep,
They gather round to take you down
And put your dreams to sleep.
Like the hand of fate you feel the weight
Of the secret that you keep.
You killed and maimed with grimy hands
And crawled out of the slime.
Until you stood upon the castle walls,
The most feared of the line.
And how it all did bend
To your will my friend.
But your soul diminished in time.
And now we stand before you:
The children of the past,
With the secret that you choose to keep,
Under the shadow that you cast.
But you will find no ease,
Nor will you rest in peace,
Like the Dead Heroes of the past.
