The Hunger
07:19
|
|||
The bright lights of the city shine
Upon the new man of the hour.
He signs another dotted line;
He says his will gives him the power,
And as for luck?
He says he just doesn’t need it.
He strides into the living night,
A ship of fools all around him.
Another fix just to get their kicks,
He only needs to flash the cash,
And the river of plenty:
It just keeps flowing.
Oh for the child
Who sleeps by hunger’s gate.
There’s food on the table
But only tears upon her plate.
Only the howling wind
To sing her soul to sleep.
Walk a mile in the shoes of the child
And you’ll dry the tears she weeps.
Meanwhile in a black limousine
Our hero closes a new deal.
Kingmaker, mover and shaker,
He’s got no time for those in need,
He’s got his eyes on the prize
Man…the big money’s talking.
He steals into the dark of night:
A fixer of returnable favours
He says that everyone has a price
So he’s loaded the dice.
He only needs to flash the cash
And his army of friends,
It just keeps growing
Oh for the child…
He is here,
He don’t like those bleeding hearts.
His message clear:
It’s been live or die from the start.
And he’s heard them all:
Those tales for tea and sympathy
In the rise and fall, he says
Only the strong survive
The filthy rich, fit and strong
Yes he is here -
And he walks among us now,
He’s got a heart of stone you know,
A heart that’s a mark of the age
The bright lights of the city shine
Upon the big man of the hour.
He sold his soul for complete control
Now, he’s counting in the counting house;
His only friend is the money
Because he don’t trust anyone.
He strides into the living night,
A ship of fools all around him.
He’s the kingpin
That’s all that matters to him
He only needs to flash the cash,
And the river of plenty
It just keeps flowing

Truth
05:27
|
|||
Winter’s here again
No sunlight breaking through.
Tears have come again
And found us waiting.
Here we stand
Not sure of all the things
That we might face.
In the dark of night,
Under winter skies
Don’t break,
Don’t fall to sorrow now.
When time has passed here
We’ll be walking in the light.
And all the things they’ve said
Will mean nothing in the end.
Across a lifetime we might wait,
No heroes coming through –
Prisoners of the state,
Bound and subjugated.
In frozen time we’re shackled by
The chains that they have made,
But when truth’s at stake
Don’t take their bait - hold on -
Don’t compromise your light.
When time has passed here
We’ll be walking in the sun
And all the chains they’ve made
Will mean nothing in the end
We’re holding out for truth,
There’s something coming through.
Keep holding out for truth
There’s something coming…
And the darkest hour
Is just before the dawn.
And if we stand with grace
In this corrupted place
The whole house of lies will fall…
Falling down like your teardrops:
Lies – falling down…
Summer’s here again,
See the clear sky breaking through,
Tears have dried again,
Now I’m walking with you.
Here we stand: hand in hand,
In the laughter we once knew.
And if we don’t kneel
At corruption’s heel
We’ll rise, we’ll walk in guiding light.
Across a lifetime
We’ll be walking in the sun
And all those underhanded plans,
They’ll mean nothing in the end.
Keep holding out for truth…
Oh my love light,
My poor suffering child…

Machine in the Garden
10:00
|
|||
What a majestic sight
Bathed in this Earthlight –
A living landscape by the sea.
But now the birds don’t sing:
This is a silent spring.
Smoke is rising through the trees.
Here comes the machine
Rolling over me.
Hear them turning now:
The cogs and the wheels
Of some unsustainable ideal.
We must know everything,
Everything is connected:
We cut the Earth
But it is us who bleed –
Another master plan
Moves against the land –
Lighting fires to feed a human greed.
And in progress’s name,
It’s a disposable game:
We buy it, we us it, it breaks down,
We throw it away.
Here comes the machine
Incorporating me.
Hear them turning now:
The cogs and the wheels
Of some mercenary ideal.
We must know everything,
Everything is connected:
We cut the Earth
But it is our own bloodline,
This time…
Paul B. Sears and Aldo Leopold,
Samuel Butler: they sent out the call
But the money men ignored it all.
Rachel Carson, William Blake,
J.R.R. Tolkien:
They made no mistake,
And now the hour is growing very late
Once a majestic sight
Now lit by artificial light:
Another waste land by the sea…
Pouring filth into the land, sky & sea
And now the birds don’t sing,
In this lonely, silent spring,
Smoke is rising through the trees.
Here comes the machine
Incorporating me…
“I am the Machine
I’m closing in all around you…”

We Breathe Together
08:28
|
|||
We breathe together
But still divide in tribes.
We dig for shelter
In these trenches of our own design.
The tragedy of human history
Is that it’s the tale of our divide.
So don’t say you know me,
Don’t say you know all about my kind.
Don’t pigeon-hole me,
Don’t you judge me in the blind.
A new day of tension breaks,
Along the fragile peace line:
Tribe facing tribe
The wrongs of the past underlined.
“The blood is on your hands” they say
“If you don’t play the game our way –
There’ll be fire on the streets”.
How many young lives lost,
While the speechmakers sleep?
Sectarian hate with a cultural face,
It hides in plain sight.
Tribe blaming tribe,
Here where two wrongs make it right.
The hatred’s on the walls you know,
They spew it on the radio,
It marks out the streets.
And pre-selected history,
Feeds the allegiance it keeps.
And they all dress up
For the big parade:
All the colours of the great divide…
We breathe together
But still divide in tribes. *=/
We create the enemy
In these wars of our own design.
The weight of all this history,
Pushing down upon our waking lives.
We breathe together,
We share this space and time -
We must find shelter,
In the houses of the common ground.
Stand up – against the call of nation,
Non necem pro patria
So don’t say you know me,
You don’t know anything
About my kind.
No nation or church controls me,
And you won’t see me
Until your colour blind.
On the hard road of tragedy
Two strangers will meet -
Too late to realise,
We’re all the same underneath.
For now they’ve caught a cause
To serve: a drum to bang
A flag to burn: a vengeance to keep.
Polarised and paralyzed,
While the speechmakers sleep…

Exit the Queen
03:56
|
|

It’s such a long, long way to fall –
Such a long, long way
From the dreaming to the Earth below
Once upon a time
Somewhere down the fame line.
She was the queen
Of the silver screen.
With every part she played
Came greater accolades –
Oh, how the whole world adored her.
But, as time went by,
The roles began to dry up,
Disappearing
Like a big screen fade out.
It’s such a long, long way to fall –
Such a long, long way
From the dreaming to the Earth below
Once the darling of the press,
Now they couldn’t care less.
From a house in the hills
To a bedsit…
Where she watches old reels
As her imagination steals
An escape through the screen
Back to yesteryear.
In a half-waking dream
She acts out every scene,
As the ghost of her past
Moves on celluloid.
But as this night unfolds,
She’ll play one final role:
To be the face once again
To sell the magazines…
And she’s so tired,
So tired of being no-one.
She used to someone - you know.
The world must be sleeping,
She’s got to wake it up…
Dressed in the clothes
Of her most famous role,
She steps upon the high ledge
With the city below.
As the news teams arrive
She steps into the sky:
Her face all aglow
As the cameras roll…
It’s such a long, long way to fall –
Such a long, long way
With the whole world below
Such a long, long way
From the heaven we used to know.
I think I recognise the feeling,
I think I recognise the doubt setting in.
It’s such a long, long way to fall –
Such a long, long way
From the dreaming to the Earth below
One time – another time…

Sale of the Century
08:36
|
|
||
“These surely are the days of mercy”
Said the killer who spared a life.
“All praise the glory of sunlight”
Declared the architects of night.
We put up with hypocrisy
Just to buy an easy life.
While the builders of the cages
Master all the tides.
“The poorest, they must bail us out”
Announced the Minister for Wealth.
“They must pay for our indiscretions
With their homes, livelihood & health”
They demonize the destitute
And we’re the salesmen of their lies.
While the agents of the changes
Circumnavigate the tide.
And our hearts are sleeping
Get ourselves awake.
They’re selling us an illusion,
Get ourselves awake.
But I’ll always hold you near
Even when the sky is failing…
Somewhere in the heart of the dark,
I hear them making plans
Discounting me.
But all along the shoreline
The water comes to wash my feet,
See the sky above:
How it lights my way…
We need to wake up
And realise that we…
We are the children of the heartbeat
Not a cog in some machine.
We need to shake up.
Walk in the footsteps of each other,
Resurrect an age of kindness,
Oh my sisters, oh my brothers…
And they saw me hold you near
Just as the sky came crashing in,
But they just turned away:
They don’t even feel the shame.
“Rejoice in the peace they bring you:
These armies and these guns”
Said the spinner of the webs of terror
As his war machine rolled on.
There is money in the blood we spill
There’s currency in the kill.
Each child that finds our murder lust:
Another mark up on the till.
I saw a mother bury her child
Just as the sky was falling.
But we just turned away
And we don’t even feel the shame.
No More – not in my name…

Watching & Waiting Man
05:35
|
|||
I am a waiting man
In the killing fields of time.
With the dreaming seeds
Of all I am.
I am a watcher too,
Along a dangerous line of sight,
And I can’t quite believe
What’s before my eyes.
In the time between what’s done
And the days to come:
I watch and I wait.
All the walkways of my dreams:
I’m still waiting there,
Lost in time.
All the victories I planned out:
I watch them as they fade…
